This plant prefers regular watering, steady temperature, humid conditions, and bright shade (dappled light) to full shade.  Soil should be well-drained. In the wild, this is a favorite of hummingbirds and pollinators.

A vigorous trailer, Columnea Hirta is ideal for hanging baskets. The long, trailing stems on this ever-blooming plant are accented with vibrant flowers. The flowers have no scent but lots of color, appearing in perfect lipstick red. A tropical variety, it makes an excellent houseplant. The variegated leaves are green and white, serving as a calming backdrop to the bold red color of the blooms.
