This Fern looks graceful and painterly when planted along shaded borders, under trees, and in shady areas that are beneath the overhangs of elevated decks and other house structures. Once it takes hold, it will take off, unfurling fronds in lovely muted tones. Its feathery Fern look is a wonderful contrast to the foliage of other plants in the garden, so it looks nice when situated near other shade plants. But it is perhaps even prettier when planted on its own. For example, you might try it in a woodland garden setting with nothing but a large tree trunk behind it, so that garden visitors can see the whole structure of the Fern.
