This plant prefers moist to well-drained soil. While it can tolerate some dryness, you will want to water it frequently.

Hold back on fertilizer for several months, from autumn to spring. Then apply a diluted liquid fertilizer to promote blooming.

Mexican false heather is a small tropical evergreen sub-shrub with many charming attributes. It is native to Mexico and Guatemala. Densely branched and rounded, it may be pruned lightly in spring if the plant becomes scraggly. Trumpet-shaped flowers have lavender petals and green calyx tubes. Hummingbirds and butterflies appreciate the flowers. They will bloom between summer and first frost. 

When grown as a house plant, be sure to provide it lots of bright light. Protect from direct light. Outside, it can be used in borders, beds, edgings, or ground cover. Also works as a houseplant, container plant, or hanging basket. If you do decide to grow in a container, consider overwintering the plant indoors.
