Evergreen plants retain their foliage through multiple growing seasons, bringing year-round interest and structure to gardens. Though they are generally easy to grow, there are some plant care tips that will help your evergreens thrive.
Be sure to provide moisture for your evergreens. They will become stressed if placed near a source of dry air, causing them to drop needles and die. Water your evergreens well into fall, before the plants go into wintering. For evergreens, autumn is the most important season for hydration. In winter, water once every couple of weeks, but do not overwater.
Potted evergreens should be kept wherever they can get bright, filtered sunlight. Outdoors, constant air circulation allows evergreens to handle more direct sunlight. Evergreens prefer well-draining soils. Soil should not be overly wet or mushy.
Ensure at least 5 hours of direct sunlight each day, and dappled indirect light for the remainder of daylight hours.
