This herb, like most, loves sun... not scorching sun, but good, bright light. Keep it in a sunny spot on your patio, in a container with excellent drainage. Do not fertilize, as this can negatively affect flavor. Snip and prune regularly to prevent bolting. While this regular trimming will likely prevent flowering, if you do see a flower, pinch it off.

While there are other Tarragons you can grow, French Tarragon has superior flavor. It adds interesting licorice notes to sauces (think, Béarnaise sauce), vinegars, and dressings. It can be snipped to create a garnish for vegetables or fish, mixed into chicken or egg salad... used in many culinary applications, all of which jazz up the familiar and somehow make it elegant and French. For the best flavor, add it to dishes at the very end of their preparation.
