Bee One in a Million

One of our main focuses this year is the dramatic decline in butterflies, and in pollinators in general. This has resulted in several initiatives. On Memorial Day Weekend we will be giving a free pollinator plant to every customer interested. We also have a new native pollinator plant collection and a brochure regarding the topic. The Million Pollinator Garden Challenge is a nationwide call to action to preserve and create gardens and landscapes that help revive the health of bees, butterflies, birds, bats and other pollinators across the states. Did you know that pollinators are responsible for 1 out of 3 bites of food we take each day? Many reasons contribute to their recent decline. We know for certain, that more nectar and pollen sources provided by more flowering plants and trees will help improve their health and numbers. Increasing the number of pollinator-friendly gardens and landscapes will help revive the health of pollinators. Go to millionpollinatorgardens.org and become One In a Million.

Pollinator Friendly Design

If you are interested in adding native pollinator friendly plants to your garden, we have selected 6 of the best plants and combined them in a handy 6-pack. Included with your 6 pack is a simple design to get you off to a good start. We should all be able to add in a selection of pollinator friendly plants to our yards, gardens and landscapes. Think about these locations as possible sites, behind your mailbox or fire number, along the driveway, or just mixed into an existing perennial border. These hardy plants will do well in areas that have plenty of sun and good drainage in the soil.

This Japanese anemone is a graceful plant that flowers in late summer and early fall when colorful displays of most other perennials are done blooming in the landscape.
