August is considered to be a month of charm and beauty and that is certainly true in our display gardens. The borders are a mass of color from tall garden phlox, monardas and coneflowers. Crocosmia, commonly called the Falling Star, adds bursts of brilliant orange. Even the woodland garden is boasting lots of color and interest, with hostas, astilbes, ligularia, and aruncus. August is also the hottest part of the summer and may be the best time to relax on the patio or porch and make notes of your gardens' performance. You may notice that there are several of your tall perennials 'hiding' behind other plants - out of view for your enjoyment. Do not despair - and don't dig them out. Instead, join our workshop to learn Techniques to control floppy perennials. We will discuss pruning techniques as well as staking options to keep your perennials fuller, more upright and flowering for a longer time. You may also be experiencing problems with deer in your garden. If the best defense is a good offense, then it makes sense to start by choosing deer resistant plants. During our Deer Resistant Plants workshop we will offer several suggestions for plants that are generally 'less attractive' as well as many ways to protect plants that are considered deer 'candy'.
There will be many other Special Event Sales and free refreshments will be served both days. |
