Bareroot Days...

Bareroot Sale It is hard to believe that it has actually been 25 years since we first opened our doors and gardens for you. Almost from the very beginning we have kick-started the season with a spring Bareroot Sale. This year it's coming up next week, Thursday April 23 through Saturday the 25th from 8:30 to 5:30. The 25% off sale include trees, shrubs, fruit trees, small fruits and roses. All being sold, as the name implies, without soil and pot.

Earth Day...

Earth Day Gaylord Nelson, the U.S. Senator from Wisconsin, founded Earth Day in 1970. The internationally celebrated Earth Day that focuses on environmental awareness is on April 22nd. 2007 was one of the largest Earth Days to date, with an estimated billion people participating in the activities in thousands of places around the globe. Even though our sale is on the days after, it is still not too late to get out there and plant some trees for the future.

The Advantages...

Bareroot Advantages The advantage of bareroot plants is that they are less expensive, a much lighter burden to transport, and the plants can have up to 200% more root mass than container trees. Also, planting them early gives the plants a long season to settle in before the winter season. There must be some disadvantages! Yes, you should get the tree or shrub planted within a week of purchasing it, and not all varieties come bareroot! So please look in our Catalog if you want something specific, or give us a call. The catalog lists all the varieties that are available bareroot. Basically all items in the Trees and Shrubs section listed without a 'Ct' in the size-column come as bareroot.

How to Plant
Bareroot Stock...

Planting Bareroot We have a 'Planting Guide' that gives detailed advice on how to properly prepare your site and how to plant and care for your bareroot plants. You can pick one up here and we can go over it with you. Or if you go to our website you will find a printable version under Planting Guides. If you are in doubt about how good your soil really is, you should also take a soil test. Contact your local extension office or go to their website and find out how to do it.

Only Bareroot?...

Greenhouse If you haven't been to the greenhouse this early before and think that we only sell 'sticks' this week, we want to reassure you that we are open for the season now. Though some plants may be a little smaller, all of them are here and growing!

Keep those thumbs green!
